The nursery at SUNY Maritime College is an exciting partnership between the Billion Oyster Project, our Soundview Reefs partners, and the state university in the Bronx. The school graciously agreed to install and monitor dozens of oyster trays beneath their docks until they are ready to be transferred to a permanent Billion Oyster Project reef.

“The SUNY Maritime College oyster nursery is a unique site. Not only does it have Empire State VI, a 565-foot training vessel, sitting right in front of the nursery allowing us to admire it while we work, but it also has a long row of 79 super tray stacks filled with oysters! In 2019, we installed 1.7 million spat-on-shell at this site and we are incredibly excited to see how well our oysters thrive here and to develop an even closer relationship with SUNY Maritime College.”
