Engaging 1M People in restOring 1B Oysters!
Since our founding in 2014, Billion Oyster Project has been lucky to partner with companies, influencers, community organizations, museums, and other nonprofits to share our work with new audiences. These brands, and the people behind them, share our values and believe in our mission to restore oyster reefs to New York Harbor with the help of young people.
In-kind donations, limited edition products, media productions, public exhibits, in-store events, and other creative initiatives allow our partners to showcase their support for our work in addition to reaching a sustainably-minded, adventure-loving audience of over 45,000 New Yorkers and global supporters. Here are some ongoing collaborations designed to deepen your understanding of our work and advocate for its expansion in New York City!

SHE SELLS SEASHELLS | OYSTER STOUT
TALEA BREWING
In early 2023, TALEA Beer Co., New York City’s first female-owned brewery, teamed up with us to launch She Sells Sea Shells. The 4.2% ABV stout, brewed using oyster shells collected by Billion Oyster Project’s Shell Collection Program, has notes of light roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and sea salt.

SALT MARSHES EXHIBIT
NEW YORK AQUARIUM
Billion Oyster Project is thrilled to be part of the “Spineless” exhibit at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn. This kid-friendly, bilingual exhibit introduces young New Yorkers to live oysters and our work around the five boroughs.
WATERFRONT EXPERIENCE
PUTTING GREEN BK
PUTTING GREEN is an 18-hole mini golf course open to the public on the waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This neighborhood pop-up, supported by Two Trees Management is designed to showcase the problems and solutions for some of the most pressing climate change issues facing our planet.
Hole 15 — The Big Oyster — is designed around the city’s oyster population, which has been decimated over the years due to overfishing, pollution, and habitat loss. This hole highlights the need for restoring the oyster’s habitat to make the city’s waterways healthier.

SHELL COLLECTION PROGRAM
TALISKER WHISKy
In light of their slogan — “made by the sea” — and in support of rehabilitating our oceans, Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky became the lead sponsor of Billion Oyster Projects Shell Collection Program in 2020.
If you’re up early enough you can catch our co-branded shell collection truck — operated by The Lobster Place — picking up leftover shells from 60+ Brooklyn and Manhattan restaurants four times a week.
Here’s a recap of our 2022 Shell Collection Program thanks to Talisker’s support.

BROOKLYN CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
Oyster City
BCM’s Billion Oyster Project exhibit is a hands-on experience that teaches kids about the important role oysters play in New York Harbor, how to identify them, and much more.
