This oyster reef site serves residents in Canarsie, Brooklyn, who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Canarsie locals of all ages, including elected officials, came together to make this reef installation possible, and the Canarsie community continues to monitor and maintain the reef.

This location is thriving with life. The oysters are huge! Some grew as large as a dinner plate. During a reef monitoring event, a large American Eel was seen jumping out of the reef and it was caught on camera. Our partners at the Sebago Canoe Club are always very welcoming.
