Volunteers are Helping

Volunteer with us!

Oyster restoration is impossible without community support and the help of dedicated volunteers!

BOP holds regularly scheduled volunteer days on Governors Island throughout the Spring and Summer. Volunteers work alongside Billion Oyster Project staff to build oyster cages, prepare recycled shell for seeding, sort and count baby oysters, and much more. Every volunteer day also includes learning opportunities, Q&As with project staff, and tours of BOP’s hatchery.

VOLUNTEER to build wire mesh reef structures, oyster cages, wash and prepare recycled shells, maintain our oyster nursery, monitor oyster reefs and more. MEET new people. ENJOY amazing views while doing inspiring outdoor work.
