In Memoriam
The promenade alongside the creek water at Kaiser Park, Coney Island will be named for Gene Ritter, this Saturday, May 11th, at 11:30. Attendees are welcome to join in this ceremony to honor Gene Ritter for his work in the Coney Island Community, with a sign unveiling ceremony.
“Gene Ritter — a commercial diver/ explorer/environmental advocate — worked with the community-at-large for years--imparting his knowledge of NY coastal waters to both students and adults, and the importance of the Coney Island Creek estuary--during It's My Estuary Day, an event he co-created with Partnership for Parks, later adopted by the New York State Marine Education Association (NYSMEA), which takes place twice a year--and supports marine awareness and education. The students participate in a major beach clean-up/educational event, which continues five-and-a-half years after Gene's passing.” - NYSMEA
This event was produced in partnership with NYSMEA, The New York Aquarium, John Dewey High School, NYC Parks, and City Parks Foundation.
