2nd Annual Billion Oyster Scyposium

A showcase and networking opportunity for community scientists working on the harbor and estuary-themed projects and data-based advocacy.

PANEL AND PRESENTATIONS - VIRTUAL JUNE 9TH, 6-7:30 PM

Join Billion Oyster Project in our second annual virtual Scyposium - a space for adult educators, community scientists and college/graduate level students working on harbor and estuary-themed projects to share their research and connect. It is intended as a complement to and extension of our Symposium for students which takes place June 10th, 1-3 PM. This year the Billion Oyster Project is excited to host a panel discussion about Community Science.

The first 40 minutes of the Scyposium will be a panel discussion consisting of scientists, researchers, and advocate addressing the importance of citizen and community science in the science community. Following the panel, there will be brief 3-5 minute presentations from participants about their research at their local waterfront site and/or water quality testing program. The final lineup of selected presentations will be posted in advance of the Scyposium. This portion of the event is open to all and we particularly encourage interested community members to attend to learn more about research and environmental initatives related to New York Harbor.

  • If you'd like to present, please submit your research projects/presentations* by Friday, June 3rd. Submissions can be sent via google form. *Participants are welcome to present on research that is a work-in-progress. After you register an email will be send with the google link to submit
