An Oyster Reef Grows in the Bronx

NY Times recently did an outstanding feature piece on the reef restoration taking place at the mouth of the Bronx River. The piece featured Harbor School aquaculture students as they transported their oysters from the Wallabout Basin Nursery north along the East River aboard Harbor School’s restored buoy tender, the Privateer. The photo below shows Harbor School staff and students preparing to place the nursery reared spat-on-shell on the bottom adjacent to the shore of Soundview Park in the South Bronx.
